The Foundation for Economic Education mourns the passing of Benjamin J. Duffy on January 21, 2021. He was 44.
A champion of economic liberty for his beloved country, Ben was a generous supporter of FEE. For that and for the heroic example he set with his life, we are forever grateful.
“While an active duty Marine,” as his obituary relates, “Ben was in a car accident that left him a quadriplegic at the age of 20.” Yet, his spirit proved unbreakable. Despite his paralysis, Ben heroically persevered to create a rich and fruitful life.
“Ben became,” his obituary continues, “the primary director of his care, built a home in Chula Vista, and nurtured many lasting friendships. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and special ability to communicate complex thoughts with his facial expressions. He loved watching Notre Dame football and took pride in hosting family and friends for frequent visits that were highlighted by exceptional meals.”
Ben was a passionate and accomplished student of economics. He attained a degree in the subject, graduating cum laude from San Diego State University. Afterward, he continued to study and communicate free-market principles. Ben especially loved sharing his economics knowledge with his nephews and nieces. And through his support of the Foundation for Economic Education, Ben championed free-market principles by imparting economic understanding to many young people throughout the country and around the world.
Ben’s example, influence, and generosity are a lasting legacy. We thank him and his family from the bottom of our hearts.
