Announcing the Process to Select FEE’s New President

As FEE’s President Lawrence W. Reed recently announced, he has asked the Board of Trustees of FEE to begin the search for his successor. Larry will become President Emeritus upon the appointment of the successful candidate.

The Trustees have asked me to spearhead the search process. The target date for the transition is late 2018/early 2019.

Larry’s ten-year presidency has been by far the longest and most consequential in our history after that of our founder, Leonard E. Read. It is the Board’s hope to identify a successor of whom the same can be said.

Larry has grown the organization dramatically—by a factor of three in terms of annual budget, but by orders of magnitude in terms of outreach to our target audience. Our financial position and our educational product lines have never been stronger.

For example, a seminar program that reached hundreds each year now reaches thousands, a magazine that reached thousands by mail now reaches millions online, and we have introduced numerous video series, eBooks, and courses of study online for the first time.

Equally important, Larry has attracted a team of talented and motivated professionals in all the necessary disciplines, positioning FEE to continue to increase its impact on the intellectual atmosphere that young people breathe. This is the task that the next President of FEE will be asked to accomplish.

The Board has engaged Talent Market to assist with the search and has developed a job description that provides detailed information on the search process. Specific inquiries regarding the search should be directed to Talent Market, as detailed in that document.

With Larry continuing an active calendar of speaking and writing on behalf of FEE and remaining available to assist the new President in every way he can be of service, we are very much looking forward to the next President’s tenure as an even more exciting chapter in FEE’s history.
